Man In the Mirror (English version)

武本 重毅

Post-Corona pandemic,

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and

natural disasters that hit humanity on a global scale,

this song is increasing its presence in this chaotic era.

It was released in 1988

as the fourth single from Michael Jackson‘s seventh album “Bad”.

The lyrics and composition are jointly

by Glenn Ballard and Saida Garrett,

but the message contained in the song seems to strongly reflect the thought of Michael Jackson.

It contains a music video and a strong message

against racism, environmental destruction and the stupid conflicts of humanity.

It is not just about arranging the miserable situations of the world and planting them.

With “CHANGE” as the main theme,

the second half is full of positive scenes.

It is a composition that shows the strength of “VISION” that Michael has continued to draw.

The message of the lyrics is

If you want to make the world a better place, start by changing the person (you) in the mirror.”

I’m gonna make a change
For once in my life
Gonna feel real good
Gonna make a difference
Gonna make it right

I’m starting with the man in the mirror
I’m asking him to change his ways
And no message could have been any clearer

If you wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself and then make a change
